Today began with Jeffey getting called in to work at 3:00 am. Then the kids were up about 7:00am... I slept until 9-ish! But, with one eye opened. I took yesterday off for the wrestling Tourney. So it is back to work for me tonight at MIDNIGHT! Anyhow, we cleaned up the house a bit, and then decided to go to the movie in Chadron to see Monsters vs. Aliens. It was pretty good, but not as good as Madagascar 2. We then headed out to the ranch since we haven't been out for some time due to the weather.... the kids missed Gma and Papa.
So, Matt & Meggie went with Papa to do some coyote hunting. Andy and I put gas into the dirt bike, and headed out to check Ol' Flop Ear cow. Gma said she was starting to calve earlier, and needed checked. SO, out Andy on the dirt bike, myself on a 4 wheeler to check cows. We got out there in the triangle pasture, and Ol' Floppy was down try to push out her baby, but the babys head was out, with the tongue out. NOT GOOD! I sent Andy back to get Gma, while I tried to get the cow headed to the corral. Nope, she wouldn't go.... no matter what fancy driving I did. Gma got out there with her 4 wheeler, and no prob getting Ol' Floppy in! Yea!
Then we got her in the head catch, Papa(who arrived back from coyote hunting as it began to lightning) and helped Gma pull the baby out. Meggie hid behind the calf sled, so that only her eyes were showing.... she was scared! But, the baby was fine, and was holding his head up before we left the barn! Yippee! Another exciting birth!
Then we helped Papa cake the cows, and it was rainy. It was time to head home, as those dirt roads have NO gravel on them and become super-duper slick! So, we went home..... but not making it far. Just over the hill, we began to side-step on the road on way, then the other! Then we were in the ditch full of snow! Nope, could not rock our way out of that one! I called Gma, and she got Papa and he got his tractor. We got out no problem.... and slowly headed to town. What an adventure!
OH BECK I REMEMBER THAT PROM!!!LOL- I CAN ENVISION YOUR DAY AT THE FARM!IT PROBABLY WASN'T THE "MUDDY ROADS" THAT GOT YOU IN THE DITCH IT WAS PROBABLY JUST YOUR CRAZY DRIVING!!LOL IT IS SO NEAT THE KIDS GET THAT EXPERIENCE OUT THERE1 I CAN JUST SEE MEGAN HIDDING WHEN THE CALF WAS BEING PULLED, TO CUTE! ReplyDeleteAlways an adventure is the best way to put it. It never ceases to amaze, calving season, snow, rain, mud, calf-pulling, four-wheeler riding. Been there -- miss it!!
Glad all are home safe and warm. Have a good week! Hugs to the boys for their success on Saturday!
