Back to Updating....

So, I saw my Dr. on Friday, and he suggested that we proceed to the next step, rhizotomy.  I have heard of this before, but not researched it much.  We are trying to delay surgery as LONG as possible, as I am too stinkin' young.  So, here it is....  Also, Mom went with me to my appointment, and then afterwards, we headed to to my new favorite store....GOODWILL!  I found bargains, after bargains.  We spent a couple of hours there, sifting through the stuff.  After check out, we wanted badly to wash our hands!  We then met my Trish for lunch at a fancy-schmancy coffee house downtown Sbluff.  I like the food, but hated their coffee set up..... no menu board?!?!?!?!  I wasn't impressed!  Then we headed towards Joann, and had to have a pit stop at the Cappicino and Co. accross the street.  I got my pumpkin spice latte and was sooooooo much better!  And the owner was so stinkin' kind!  That's what I call service!  THen we headed to Walmart, and picked up some more supplies for Christmas gifts.......So, we had a great girlie day!

What is facet rhizotomy?

The goal of a facet rhizotomy is to provide pain relief by "shutting off" the pain signals that the joints send to the brain. The pain relief experienced by most patients who have this procedure lasts months or even years.
How it is done:
Patients who are candidates for rhizotomy typically have undergone several facet joint injections to verify the source and exact location of their pain. Using a local anesthetic and x-ray guidance, a needle with an electrode at the tip is placed along side the small nerves to the facet joint. The electrode is then heated, with a technology called radiofrequency, to deaden these nerves that carry pain signals to the brain.
Serious complications with facet rhizotomies are rare. A new technique using pulsed radiofrequency does not actually burn the nerve, but appears to stun the nerve. This technique appears to be even safer than the regular radiofrequency technique, but does seem to have the drawback of not lasting quite as long. Some specialists (such as the author) prefer to use the pulsed technique in higher risk areas such as the neck.
The procedure takes about 30-60 minutes. Afterwards, patients are monitored for a short time before being released.
Facet joint rhizotomy or medial branch neurotomy can effectively treat low back pain emanating from painful facet joints unresponsive to steroid injections. This efficacy hinges on the technical skill of the physician performing the procedure. Each facet joint is supplied by two small nerves so two needles must be placed to treat one joint. Findings of a recent surgical anatomical study have confirmed the accurate course of these nerves targeted in this procedure providing more compelling evidence for proper needle placement. Safe needle placement is critical in avoiding complications related to inadvertent injury to nearby structures leading to increased back or new leg pain. Although symptom reduction may be appreciated within a few days, facet joint rhizotomy should not be considered unsuccessful unless no pain relief occurs by 6 weeks after the procedure. Evidence shows that 60% of properly selected patients experience at least a 90% reduction of their low back pain that is sustained for 12 months, and 87% obtain at least 60% relief. If low back pain symptoms return over time, repeating the procedure can restore similar pain relief. However, one must keep in mind that these results are attainable when completed by well-trained interventional spine specialists experienced in executing these procedures.

Plotting the day....

Auntie Marisa called last night and asked if we could have Miss Miranda today....YESSSSSSSSSS!  We love having her with us... I sooooo want to be a wonderful, loving Aunt to her, much like my Aunt Margie was to me.  So, today is another blessed day with her.  Thank YOU Auntie and Unckie for all you do for us.
So, we are also working on our Christmas projects.  Mostly we are planning, and plotting.... just hunting for something for the guys.  Auntie suggested "brag books" for them.  SO, that very well may be what I do for them.  I have all the scrappin' stuff!?!?!?
Andy and I had a pretty good day yesterday in Rapid.  He visited with Dr. Cherry about his anger and ect. for nearly 2 hours, while I read and had a nap in the waiting area.  Then we headed to the Dark Canyon Coffee Company and checked out their roasting process.  It was pretty darn cool, and we sure enjoyed the "Aroma"!  After that, we ran to the mall and then Walmart.  Nope, no H.L., as Walmart actually had what I needed, despite the fact that I had to find it myself due to some pretty pathetic clerks.... they were too busy to be bothered!!!!  Anyhow, we got home about 7, and thanked Grandma for all of her help!  YOU ROCK GRANDMA!  Love ya!
Have a great day!

It's a crazy, busy life!

Today, we will tackle Andy's is soooooo messy & looks like an implosion!  Yesterday, Meggie and I got her room cleaned, then Matt got home and we did his.  What a relief that is!  They are hoarders!  YIKES!~  Won't let me throw anything away.  Must sneak in at a later time, and accomplish the trashing!
Jeffey got home this morn, and had breakfast for the kids ready.  So sweet of him... kids loved it!  He then went to bed when the brothers left for school.  So, Meggie and I are getting ready to put the laundry away....YUCK!  I hate that task.  I'd rather just let the couch be the dresser!  But, it isn't as pretty...
Well, I am thinking of my christmas gifts for this year.  We (Betson Family) are doing entirely homemade gifts this year.  Cool, huh?  BUT, the guys are tough to make for.......ANY IDEAS?????
Have a GREAT day!

Wendland's HalloWeen!

The kids and I went to the costume contest at the Community Building.... where there was a plethora of ghosts, pincesses, witches, a Bo-Peep, a shrub, silly dance hall girl, a harliquin girl, a couple of cowboys, a lamb or two, a monkey, a frog, and many, many, more....
Meggie won third in her age group!  She had a great time, as her best friend Kami was there with her!  What a fun dress up day!
Matt was in an age group that probably had twenty five kids in it.  So, nope he didn't win.  Oh well, he got some candy out of the deal and was very happy with that!
Then we came home and our Miranda, the lady bug,  and her parents were here!  Soon, Grandma and Papa came too.  We played and decorated pumpkins, and ate some supper....  We had a great time as a family!  Oh how I love those moments!  AWESOME MEMORIES!
Then we started getting some trick-or-treaters......  So, we rushed around and got our costumes on and faces painted, again.  TOO Funny!  We all went out to to get treats together, the gaggle of witches, a Anikin Skywalker, a Husker Football Player, a Charger football player (Nick), a Queen (Ashley),  a farmer(Papa) and a Mama Indian(Kim)!  What a sight we were!
What a fun night we had, even though Meggie got tired quickly.  I brought her home so that she and Papa could sort her candy, and have a popcorn ball.  I was told by Papa that she ate a few bites of her popcorn ball, got up and got a ziplock, put her ball into it, then sat in the chair with her banket "Big" and promptly went to sleep!  Tired lil' witch!   The rest of us went until our buckets were so full that we could add another thing!  "And boy were they heavy!" Matt said.

My favs.
