WHOO HOO! Independence!

On July 4, 1776, the Second Continental Congress, meeting in Philadelphia in the Pennsylvania State House (now Independence Hall), approved the Declaration of Independence, severing the colonies' ties to the British Crown.

  1. YIPPEE! You know, every time I see that picture I want to laugh. I think about how upset John Adams was (in the mini-series about John Adams) when he saw it for the first time and yelled at the painter how the signing wasn't anything like the painting--how they weren't even together when they signed and all that. It's funny how our history is paved by the writers and artists, though.

By the way, my grandfather was just honored yesterday for his WWII service. I'm about to post the blog entry. Swing by and view the video. I'm SOOOO excited!

  2. Hey, Beck. Thanks so much for your hospitality at the party. We had a great time Friday, and everyone in my family enjoyed being with you Sunday. I am sorry I wasn't there -- I am just starting to freak about some of the preparations for ND... and I seem to be the only one who is... what a frustrating position to be in... But whatever happens -- we'll see you when we get back!! Thanks again for all the goodies -- it was fabulous food, and great fun!!
